Field Representative: Tom Frederick

Tom Frederick

Field Representative

Tom is medically-retired from nearly thirty years as a locomotive engineer at Union Pacific
Railroad in Seattle, Washington, twenty-five of which were spent as a local, state, and regional
officer in the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers & Trainmen. As a Local and Vice General
Chairman, he developed as fascination for Labor & Employment Law, and the Federal
Employers Liability Act which covers railroad workers injured in the course of their
employment. Tom is a veteran of the United States Air Force, and was an Aircraft Maintenance
Technician on the F-15 Fighter Weapon System.

Tom was born in Cheektowaga, New York, a suburb of Buffalo. His father was a manager
employed by the newly merged Penn Central Railroad, and was transferred to Philadelphia
when Tom was six, where he grew up in the Delaware County Township of Springfield. Tom
remains a lifelong fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies, and Flyers, and the Penn State Nittany
Lions, despite living in Seattle for thirty years.

Tom is a fourth-generation railroader. His great-grandfather owned a coal mine in Southern
Indiana and constructed his own short line railroad to serve the mine and move the coal to
interchange. His grandfather was a locomotive engineer on the Pennsylvania Railroad. His father
was a clerk who then went into management on the Pennsylvania/Penn Central/Conrail; his uncle
was a locomotive engineer on those same railroads. His older brother was a trainman/locomotive
engineer on the Penn Central/Conrail/Norfolk Southern, and used to take Tom to work with him
when he was in commuter train service in Philadelphia where he taught Tom the basics of
railroading during Tom’s early teenage years.

Tom was married to his wife, Missy, in 2008. Tom has three children from his first marriage, and
Missy has two from hers. They have three grandchildren from Tom’s two daughters. Tom has an
Associate of Arts degree and a Paralegal certificate from Green River College in Auburn,
Washington; a Bachelor of Arts in Law & Justice degree from Central Washington University in
Ellensburg, Washington; and a Master of Legal Studies degree from the Sandra Day O’Connor
School of Law at Arizona State University with a concentration in Labor & Employment Law.
He has been a part-time Investigator with Rossi Vucinovich since Spring of 2021.
